I am in college but will not be done until age 26. I have a 5 year old child. I live at home with my mom and 22 year old brother. I make $150 (a month) through freelance work. I am only 23 and this life is getting to me. Our apartment is under a section 8 voucher so if no one works in the home we only have to pay $1 for rent. Heat is included. The only thing that we have to pay for is the any phone or cable service and lights. I have been looking for work since last year. I cannot believe how hard of a time I am having getting a job. How do I get out of this rut? I can see myself treading down the same path as my mother, she is 52 and gets a check for $1,000 a month. She only seems to have money once a month and spends her days in front of the television and computer sipping on beer and scratching tickets. I love her but I don't want my life to be like that. My daughter will be starting kindergarten soon so I have a couple of hours to get some things done and fix our situation. My daughter does not suffer or starve. She is well fed, has nice clothes, and plenty of toys. It is me who is underfed, owns 4 pair of jeans with holes in all of 3 of them. I am pursing a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Health.
